Sleep and Overall Health
Why is good sleep important even when I do not feel tired?
Sleep Isn’t Just About Feeling Rested
Sleep does much more than determine whether you feel rested the next morning. During sleep, the body supports memory, emotional regulation, immune function, cardiovascular health, metabolism, tissue repair, and recovery from daily stress. A person may become accustomed to poor or fragmented sleep and underestimate its effects, even while important overnight processes are being disrupted. Looking beyond daytime tiredness and paying attention to sleep duration, awakenings, oxygen levels, heart rate, and longer-term patterns can provide a clearer picture of whether sleep is supporting overall health.
